PHILADELPHIA - Senior keeper Christiana Ogunsami recorded a career-high 20 saves as she led the Drexel women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Northeastern on Thursday night. This doubled her previous career total of 10, which came against the Huskies in last year's regular season competition, and moves her into a tie for eighth place in all-time saves in just her second year of play in University City. Her 20 saves marks the most a Drexel keeper has ever recorded in a CAA game.
The game remained scoreless through the first half. It was just under two minutes into the second period that Madison Dunn got the Dragons on the board as she headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausbøll. The Dragons would maintain a 1-0 advantage for a good portion of the half, but then the Huskies were able to retaliate and even the score in the 65th minute. After a scrum in the box, Northeastern's Nicole Gorman was able to tap the ball over to Hannah Rosenblatt who put the ball in from close range causing the Dragons and Huskies to be knotted up at 1-1 with just over 25 minutes to play.
Neither team was able to score as the clock ticked down in regulation. There were opportunities for both teams in both overtime periods, but to no avail. The game would end in a 1-1 draw after two overtimes, allowing both teams to start off conference play with a tie.
The Huskies outshot the Dragons, 36-15. While Ogunsami recorded her 20 saves, Northeastern's Natalie Nydetch tallied seven of her own.
With the tie, the Dragons move to 5-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 against conference opponents and Northeastern moves to 6-4-1, 0-0-1 CAA.
The Dragons will continue conference play this weekend as they host William & Mary for a Sunday matchup at Vidas Field. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
