PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Drexel women's soccer team fell to No. 16 Rutgers, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The nationally ranked Scarlet Knights have yet to give up a goal this season after five games played.
Rutgers' Brittany LaPlant was the first to get the Scarlet Knights on the board with a goal scored in the 37th minute. Carina Hendley and Christy Monroy set up LaPlant and allowed her to put it in from three yards out.
The Scarlet Knights would score their second goal just after halftime as Colby Ciarrocca scored in the 49th minute. Ciarrocca headed in the ball off a corner kick from Kenie Wright for Rutgers' second and final goal of the game. The Dragons would be unable to retaliate in the remaining time and would go on to fall by a 2-0 deficit.
The Scarlet Knights outshot the Dragons, 10-5 on the competition. Drexel keeper Christiana Ogunsami recorded three saves on the outing. Rutgers' Casey Murphy maintained her streak and now has gone five games without allowing a goal to start the season.
With the loss, the Dragons move to 3-3 on the season while the undefeated Scarlet Knights improve to 5-0 on the year.
Next up, the Dragons will finish out their five-game road trip as they head to Monmouth on Friday, Sept. 8 to face the Hawks in a game that is set to begin at 7 p.m. Drexel will then return home to host Penn on Thursday, Sept. 14.
