Women’s Soccer Battles Towson to Double OT Scoreless Draw

TOWSON, Md. - Drexel women's soccer Libby Baeza earned her fifth shut out in a scoreless double overtime draw against Towson on Sunday afternoon, preserving the tie with a save on a Tigers penalty kick in the first overtime period.
The first half was scoreless with Drexel outshooting Towson, 8-2. Kiera Hennessy led the half with three shots while Rachel Sharkey and Shaelyn McCarty had two shots apiece. The Dragons had a last minute chance at the end of the half with a corner kick from Emma Heckenberg that found the head of Kiera Hennessy. Her shot was on target, however, Towson's keeper Megan Collins made the save to keep the game tied at the half.
Drexel got off to a strong start in the second half immediately getting a header off from McCarty in the 48th minute.
The Tigers and the Dragons battled to the very last minute, ending the game in a scoreless draw. Towson was awarded a penalty kick early in the first overtime period, but Justine Stoner's attempt was stonewalled by Baeza to keep the game going. It was one of two saves for Baeza in the overtime period.
Drexel outshot the Tigers 31-10 while Baeza made six saves in net for the Dragons.
The Dragons will return to action when they travel to Boston, Mass. for a 6 p.m. road match against CAA opponent Northeastern.
