BALTIMORE, Md. – Pitcher Brooklyn Daly tossed a five-inning perfect game to help propel the Drexel softball team to an 11-0 shutout against Saint Peter's on Saturday morning at the Hampton Inn BWI UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational.
In addition to her five-inning shutout, Daly only allowed two hits and fanned four batters. Megan Trivelpiece went a perfect three-for-three with two RBI while Jenelle Ladrido, Linda Rush and Elena Woulfe each had two hits on the day.
The Dragons wasted no time getting on the board as they used an early four-run first inning to establish a 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Woulfe got things started with a bunt to push Ladrido across the plate for the first run of the game. Trivelpiece then sliced a single through left field to drive in two more runs before a ground out from Sophie Halverson plated Woulfe for the fourth run of the inning.
After two scoreless frames, Walker smacked a double to center field to plate Ladrido and give the Dragons a 5-0 cushion before a huge six-run fifth inning secured the victory for the Dragons. After a walk with the bases loaded forced the Dragons first run across, Walker ignited the rally with a two-run single to center field. Up 8-0, Rush hit a bases clearing triple and scored on an overthrow to give the Dragons an 11-0 victory in just five innings of play.
The Dragons will return to action later today at 1:30 p.m. when they take on Sacred Heart.
