PHILADELPHIA – Kristi DiMeo hit three home runs for her 14th of the season to help propel the Drexel Softball team to a sweep against Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon at Drexel Softball Field. The Dragons defeated the Leopards, 5-2, before taking the nightcap, 7-6.
In game one, the Leopards got on the board early hitting a home run out of left field at their second at bat of the day. The Dragons responded in the bottom of the inning with a homer of their own off the bat of Kristi DiMeo to drive in two and steal back the lead.
Neither team added a run until Drexel extended its edge, 5-1, with a three-run fifth. With two on base and no outs, Taylor Kent hit a double down the line to drive in Reilly Jo Swanson before back-to-back singles from Hannah Walker and Linda Rush plated two more.
The Leopards scored a run in the seventh using a single, but it was not enough to come back and defeat the earlier deficit.
Rush and Swanson each went 2-for-4 at the plate while Kent went 2-for-3 with a double and DiMeo hit a two run homer. Devon Grippe earned the win in the circle. She pitched a complete game while yielding six hits and two runs.
The Leopards struck first again in game two but the lead was brief thanks to DiMeo who hit her second home run of the day to give the Dragons a 3-1 advantage heading into the second.
After a scoreless inning, back-to-back solo home runs from Rush and DiMeo put Drexel ahead 5-1 in the third before a Rush single in the fifth extended the lead 6-1.
Using a double to center, Lafayette was able to score a run in the fifth, but Drexel matched it immediately with a RBI double off the bat of Ladrido to drive in Holly Bridgman.
Lafayette cut the deficit down to one using two doubles in the sixth and one in the seventh, but Drexel found its way out of the inning to secure the 7-6 victory.
Rush went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI while Ladrido went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Katie Haley pitched a complete game to pick up the win. She yielded nine hits and six runs.
The Dragons will return to action on Thursday, April 26 when they travel to Rider for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
