PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team dropped two games against James Madison on Friday afternoon at Drexel Softball Field. The Dragons fell, 3-1, in game one before dropping the nightcap, 11-0.
In game one, the Dragons blanked the Dukes in the first thanks to a huge right field catch by Megan Trivelpiece and Brooklyn Daly, who struck out the last batter.
Drexel's defense carried that momentum into the second where they blanked the Dukes again, this time leaving the bases loaded with a line drive out to Hannah Walker.
The Dukes, however, knocked a homer out of left field in the following inning and jumped out to a 3-0 edge thanks to a Drexel fielding error in the sixth.
After a Taylor Kent single, Linda Rush followed with a hit to right to advance Kent who was later brought home thanks to a James Madison throwing error. The run cut the deficit down to two in the sixth, but it was not enough as the Dukes walked away with the 3-1 victory.
Kent, Rush and Jenelle Ladrido each had a hit in game one. Brooklyn Daly suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched a complete game while allowing six hits and three runs.
Game two was a different story, as James Madison jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings using a home run and a pair of Drexel fielding errors.
After a homer in the fourth put the Dukes ahead by five, James Madison used a six-run seventh inning, including two homers, to jump out to an 11-0 edge and complete the sweep.
The Dragons will return to action on Saturday, May 5 when they close out their season with a single game against James Madison beginning at 12 p.m.
