RALEIGH, N.C. – The Drexel wrestling team (4-5) picked up four wins in a Saturday evening dual loss to No. 8 NC State (12-2) by a final of 25-16 in Raleigh, N.C. as No. 14-ranked junior Ebed Jarrell (165) secured a first-period pin and true freshman Anthony Walters (184) earned a major decision victory.
Sophomore Chandler Olson (133) and No. 16-ranked redshirt senior Joey Goodhart (HWT) also grabbed decision wins. It came as Goodhart's team-best 22nd overall victory and eighth dual win of the year.
"I'm really proud of the way we competed tonight," said head coach Matt Azevedo. "Everyone fought hard and got after it. Really excited for Ebed with a first period pin over a nationally ranked opponent. I like where our team is going."
Freshman Antonio Mininno dropped a close 4-3 decision at 125 to NC State's Zurich Storm to begin the dual. Trailing 3-1 going into the third period, the Drexel freshman earned a penalty point and then an escape with 55 seconds left to tie it up though Storm had already secured the riding time point. Mininno stayed active in the final minute, taking shots, but Storm evaded as time ran out.
Then Olson grabbed a 6-0 decision win over the Wolfpack's John Devine at 133 to even the match overall, 3-3. He earned a takedown on first contact six seconds into the first period to go up 2-0 before riding Devine out for the final 2:54. Olson earned the only point in the second via an escape to go up 3-0.
