Drexel Finishes Fifth at Firestone Invitational

Final Results
Akron, Ohio - The Drexel golf team concluded the final round of the Firestone Invitational at even par and finished the tournament in fifth place overall. The Dragons were eight-under par over the final 36 holes, the lowest score of any of the 15 teams competing in the event. Senior Connor Schmidt saved his best round of the tournament until the final day, shooting a blistering five-under-par 67 on Tuesday. Schmidt's 67 tied for the best round of the day. Overall, Drexel finished the 54-hole event at 867, just three shots over par.
Schmidt had five birdies on the back nine and finished up the day by making birdie on three of the last four holes. He had eight birdies overall on the day and was four-under par on the four par five holes. He finished tied for 10th overall. Alex Butler was one shot behind Schmidt and finished at even-par 216. The senior, who had Drexel's best round on Monday with a 69, tied for the tournament lead with two eagles. He also finished in a tie for par five scoring, finishing in eight-under par on 12 par fives.
Junior Jeffrey Cunningham concluded the tournament at 219, while fellow junior Angelo Giantsopoulos finished at 223. Both players shot 73 in the final round. Stephen Cerbara ended the day with a 77 and was 225 over the tournament.
South Carolina-Aiken won the tournament by shooting 857 (-7). Santa Clara and Bowling Green were the runners-up at 858. Bowing Green had a 278 on Tuesday, the best score of the day. Akron's Fabian Sunden earned medalist honors with an eight-under-par 208 (72-66-70)
