Final Results
POWELLS POINT, N.C. - The Drexel golf team came within one stroke of the team record for 54 holes and finished in fourth place at the 2019 ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. The Dragons shot 840 over the three rounds, which was 12 shots under par.
The Dragons were within striking distance heading into the final day. However, the par-71, 6,515-yard course, proved to be more of a challenge on Tuesday a.m. The Dragons still shot under par on the day, but North Dakota State went 12-under par on the day and won the event by shooting 26-under par. Old Dominion was 22-under par, while Georgetown finished third, two shots better than the Dragons.
Connor Schmidt led the Dragons on Tuesday with a three-under-par 68. He played a bogey-free round with three birdies and 15 pars. Jeffrey Cunningham also went under par with a 70, while Stephen Cerbara had a 71. Cerbara, a junior, had the low score of the tournament for Ben Feld's team. He went par or better in all three rounds and finished at 210, three shots under par. Cerbara tied for 13th overall. Schmidt, Cunningham and Angelo Giantsopoulos each finished one shot behind Cerbara. Cunningham and Giantsopoulos each had an eagle on the day as Drexel was the only team with a pair of eagles on Tuesday.
The Drexel record for 54 holes was set back in 2005. The Dragons shot 13-under par at the JMU Invitational. Today's round tied for the second-best score to par in Drexel history. It tied the 12-under par 840 the Dragons shot last season at the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay. The five players that combined to shoot 12-under at Chambers Bay were the same five who competed this week at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
