PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel golf team completed an outstanding fall season by winning the City 6 Championship. Connor Schmidt earned medalist for the Dragons, while Jeffrey Cunningham was the runner-up. It's the second time in the last three years that Drexel has won the title.
Schmidt continued to show why he is one of the best golfers in the Colonial Athletic Association. The senior shot a one-under-par 69 and was the only competitor to break par. It was his third career victory and first of the fall season. Junior Jeffrey Cunningham finished with a 70. He turned it on at the end, making birdie on three of the last four holes. That included two puts in excess of 40 feet as he finished just one shot behind his teammate. Stephen Cerbara completed the day with a 75, while Angelo Giantsopoulos battled back from a triple bogey early to shoot 76.
As a team, the Dragons finished the day at 290, despite the cold and sometimes windy conditions at Huntingdon Valley Country Club. Drexel pulled away late and defeated second-place Temple by 10 strokes. La Salle finished the day in third place (306), while Saint Joseph's shot a 309 and Villanova finished at 316.
