Dragons Place Seventh in First Event of the Spring

PALM CITY, Fla. - The Drexel golf team shot a two-over-par 290 on the final day of the UNCW Martin Downs Collegiate. The Dragons ended the tournament in seventh place out of 14 teams.
On Sunday, coach Ben Feld's team had the sixth best score of any of the teams participating in the event at the Osprey Course. Connor Schmidt and Stephen Cerbara each went under par in the final round. Schmidt has a 69, while Cerbara had his best round of the tournament with a 71. Schmidt tied for 11th overall in the tournament at five-under par and had the second best score on any player on the par threes during the event. Jeffrey Cunningham, who finished Sunday at 74, and Angelo Giantsopoulos each tied for 32nd overall at 219, just three shots over par.
Senior Alex Butler carded a 226 (+10) over the three days, while Cerbara finished at 229. Overall, the Dragons finished at five-over par 869 in the 54-hole event, which was good for seventh place. The hosts from UNC Greensboro won the tournament with a score of 823, 41 shots below par. James Madison finished second, followed by Samford.
