Women’s Swimming and Diving Collects 17 Top-10 Finishes, Jumps to Top of Patriot Invitational Field

FAIRFAX, Va. – Behind three gold medals and seven total podium finishes the Drexel women's swimming and diving team rose to the top of the field on the second day of the Patriot Invitational on Friday. Alexa Kutch and Gabrielle Rudy won one individual event each and contributed to a first-place relay finish as well.
Kutch and Rudy joined Lera Nasedkina and Ryann Styer to post a winning mark of one minute, 41.23 seconds in the 200 medley relay, the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Rudy won her individual gold in the 100 breast, an event where Drexel placed four swimmers in the fop six. The junior from Folsom, Pa. touched the wall at 1:00.80, the second-best mark in program record and an NCAA 'B' cut. Megan Sicinski claimed silver in the same race with the team's third-best time (1:02.62). Nasedkina turned in the fourth-best mark in the event in program history to finish fourth, and Rebecca Churchill placed sixth.
Kutch took the top spot in the 100 back with a time of 53.34, an NCAA 'B' cut.
Sicinski added a silver in the 400 IM at 4:22.38, the second-best time in team history.
Rudy took bronze in the 100 fly, and three Dragons placed in the top-10. Rudy finished in 55.93 with Kutch (fifth) and Nasedkina (ninth) joining her.
The Dragons went back-to-back in the 800 free relay, taking sixth and seventh.
Becca Demaree turned in another seventh-place finish on the boards, scoring 216.90 points in the 1 meter.
After 38 events, the Dragons lead the eight-team field with 592 points. Florida Atlantic sits in second with 564 points, and UNCW is third with 453.
