CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Drexel women's tennis team came up short at the College of Charleston on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the host Cougars 5-2. Ghita Benhadi led the way with wins in singles and doubles, but hers was the only singles victory for the Dragons after they captured the doubles point.
The Dragons made quick work of the doubles matches. Marta Martinez and Katka Majarova were the first to finish, winning 6-2 at No. 3. Shortly thereafter, Benhadi and Cristina Corte Gonzalez put the finishing touches on a 6-3 victory at No. 2 that sealed the doubles point for Drexel.
Singles play was a different story, however, as the Cougars won the first five matches to finish, more than enough to clinch the overall match victory. Playing at No. 2, Benhadi dropped the first set 6-3 before blanking her opponent 6-0 in the second and winning the third 6-3 to get the Dragons' lone singles point.
Drexel will remain on the road for its next match on Friday at UNCW, getting underway at noon.
