Golf Concludes Washington Trip With Fourth Place at Chambers Bay

Final Results
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Drexel golf team completed its trip to Washington with a fourth place finish in the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational held at Chambers Bay. The Dragons finished the 54-hole tournament at 12-under par after playing Tuesday's final round at 286 (+2). Sophomore Stephen Cerbara led the Dragons with a 209, four-under par. He tied for 15th overall in the tournament.
Drexel finished up strong on the back nine after a slow start. Connor Schmidt, Angelo Giantsopoulos and Jeffrey Cunningham each played the final round at even par. Schmidt and Giantsopoulos each played Chambers Bay at even par or better in all three rounds. Schmidt finished the event at 210, one shot behind Cerbara and at three-under par. Giantsopoulos had a 211. Cunningham played the final 36 holes in two-under par after opening with a 75 and finished at 215. Alex Butler contributed to the scoring with a 70 on Monday afternoon and finished play at 219.
The fourth place finish was even more impressive when you take into account the teams in the 18-team field. UCLA won the Redhawk Invitational with a score of 815, which was 37 shots better than par. Fresno State finished second at 827, while Oregon State closed the tournament at 837, just three strokes ahead of the Dragons. Drexel held off UT Arlington by a stroke and was two better than Utah. The Dragons left Washington with a lower score than one member of the Pac-12, two teams from the Big Ten, and three teams from the state of California.
Drexel will head home and will be back in action next Monday. The Dragons play at the Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern. The two-day event concludes on Tuesday.
