9/11/2019 9:51:00 PM | Men's Soccer
NEWARK, N.J. – The Drexel men's soccer team is still in search of its first victory of the season, but got a positive result on Wednesday evening as the Dragons played the unbeaten NJIT Highlanders to a draw on their home field, 1-1. Chris Donovan scored his third goal of the season to pull the Dragons even early in the second half.
Donovan's goal came in the 62nd minute, knotting the score at one after the Highlanders had taken a lead in the 37th minute late in the first half. Donovan's three goals through four games match his total from all of last season, when the then-freshman finished with three goals and nine points. Francisco Rodrigues da Palma registered his first point of the year with an assist on the Dragons' goal.
NJIT outshot the Dragons by a narrow 13-12 margin, though Drexel put five shots on goal to just two for the Highlanders. Cameron Sanders made one save in his first start of the season in goal. Kwesi Allen led the team with three shots, though just one went on goal. Donovan put both of his shot attempts on frame.
The Dragons will remain on the road for their next contest, when they visit Bucknell on Saturday. That game kicks off at 2 p.m.
