PRINCETON, N.J. – The Drexel wrestling team won four times in a 22-16 defeat at No. 14 Princeton on Saturday afternoon. Ebed Jarrell, Michael O'Malley, Sean O'Malley and Parker Kropman were all victorious on the Tigers' mat.
Drexel (6-10) took three of the first five matchups against the Tigers (7-4).
No. 18 Jarrell started off the day with a 6-1 decision victory over Grant Cuomo at 165 pounds. The East Greenwich, R.I. collected his 16th win of the season and the 73rd of his career, stretching his winning streak to five straight in the process.
Michael O'Malley, ranked 27th at 174 pounds, wasted little time in securing maximum points for the Dragons. The redshirt-freshman worked a quick takedown and turned Kevin Parker for four back points. With a 6-0 lead near the midway point of the first, O'Malley turned Parker again and pinned his shoulders to the mat for his 15th win of the season. Of those 15 wins, 11 have been of the bonus-point variety.
The Tigers leveled the dual at 9-9 with a major decision at 184 pounds and a technical fall at 197.
Sean O'Malley followed in his younger brother's footsteps with a bonus-point win at heavyweight. The elder O'Malley was dominant throughout with a pair of takedowns, one reversal and over five minutes of riding time.
Princeton pulled to within a point of the Dragons with a decision at 125 then went ahead for good with a close, 6-4 win at 133 pounds. The Tigers won their third-straight by decision at 141 before scoring a major at 149.
No. 33 Kropman ended the dual with a 6-4 win over Jake Marsh at 157 pounds. Kropman scored first on a takedown in the first period and never trailed. Starting the second in the down position, the Rochester, N.Y. native escaped then took down Marsh to go ahead 6-3. Kropman could not ride out Marsh in the third but limited him to just the one escape point.
