Women's Swimming and Diving Wins Silver, Sets Multiple Program Records

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Day two has ended for the CAA Championships and the Drexel women's swimming and diving team ended the night with a silver medal and numerous program record times.
Gabrielle Rudy turned in the third-best swim in program history in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.62. Rudy placed second in the prelims, qualifying for the 'A' finals where she won silver with a program-record time of 2:01.68. The second-place finish at CAAs is Rudy's third silver of her career.
In the 500 free, Natalie Gundling posted the team's eighth best time in the prelims at 4:58.89. That time landed Gundling a spot in the 'B' final where she came in sixth place (14th overall). Gundling's final swim was ninth best in program history with a time of 4:58.90.
In the 50 free, Lera Nasedkina swam a program best time of 22.87, which earned her a spot in the 'A' finals where she placed fifth but also set the program's second best time of 23.17. Nasedkina now owns Drexel's top three times in the event.
Hollie Hopf swam a 23.68 in the 50 free prelims, giving her a spot in the 'B' finals where she came in second place with a time 23.59, which is the program's eighth-best time.
In the last event of the night, the team of Nasedkina, Hopf, Rudy and Alicia Diaz competed in the 200 free relay, narrowly missing out on the bronze medal by four-tenths of a second. But the relay team did set the program's second best time with a time of 1:33.00.
Drexel will return to action tomorrow morning to continue the four-day championships. Prelims start at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the finals at 6 p.m.
