Rush Reaches 200 Career Hits, Softball Drops First Game to Ball State

ORLANDO, Fla. – Linda Rush recorded her 200th career hit as the Drexel softball team fell to Ball State by a score of 9-4 to begin its season. Drexel dropped to 0-1 while Ball State improved to 11-5.

Rush's 200th hit makes her the first Drexel player to achieve that milestone in program history.

Hannah Walker had a multi-hit game with one RBI, and Kristi DiMeo scored a run and doubled home another.

Devon Grippe started the game in the circle and pitched four shutout innings. In the fifth, she let up three earned runs on five hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

Meghan Conroy picked up her first loss of the season. Conroy came into the game as relief and pitched one-third of an inning, letting up three runs on three hits.

How It Happened

Megan Trivelpiece singled in the first inning to score DiMeo and plate the first run of the season.

In the third inning, Walker singled to center field to score Taylor Kent, who reached earlier in the inning on a throwing error. Later in the inning, Sarah Clinton singled to left field to bring home Rush, making the score 3-0.

In the top of the fourth, DiMeo doubled home Rush to push the score to 4-0.

The Cardinals scored nine unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 9-4.

The Dragons will look to win their first game when they face Ball State again in the first part of the doubleheader on Saturday at 9:30. The latter half of the doubleheader featuring the Dragons and Columbia will start at 11 a.m.
