Women’s Basketball Defeats Northeastern for 10th-Straight Win, 67-51

BOSTON – The Drexel University women's basketball team (17-6, 10-1 CAA) defeated the Northeastern University Huskies (10-12, 6-5 CAA) on Sunday afternoon by a final of 67-51 from the Cabot Center in Boston, Mass.
HIGHLIGHTS
* The win came as Drexel's 10th-straight victory as the team improved to 10-1 in league play.
* Senior Bailey Greenberg recorded her 10th career double-double behind game highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
* Greenberg also moved into 5th place on Drexel's all-time scoring list and now has 1,647 career points.
* Sophomore Keishana Washington tied for a game-high 14 points behind 4-of-5 from three-point range and 2-of-2 at the line.
* Sophomore Kate Connolly gave the Dragons a major boost in the first half, going 4-of-4 from beyond the arc to tie her career high of 12 points in the opening period.
* Senior Mariah Leonard was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field for eight points. Fellow senior Niki Metzel also contributed six points.
* The Dragons finished with 10 three-pointers on the day to tie their season high as a team.
* Drexel connected on 9-of-12 three-pointers in the first half, including four from Connolly, three from Washington and one from each Hannah Nihill and Maura Hendrixson. DU held a 41-22 at the halftime and led by as many as 21 in the first half.
* Drexel's largest lead of 23 came with 58 seconds left in the third quarter, 54-31.

Greenberg, Metzel and Leonard scored the first three baskets for the Dragons, who led 6-5 at the first media break with 4:41 to go. Leonard's layup started a 13-0 run for the Dragons, which included two three-pointers from Connolly and a trey from Washington, 17-7. The 15-2 stretch concluded with two Northeastern free throws with 41.9 seconds left as DU owned a 19-9 after the opening period.

Washington started the quarter for Drexel with her second and third three-pointers, 25-12. Connolly then kept her hot start going with two more treys as she was 4-of-4 from beyond the arc to match her career high with 12 points early. Connolly's fourth triple started a 13-2 stretch to put the Dragons up by 21. A foul with 0.2 seconds on the clock led to the Huskies making two last-second free throws as Drexel took a 41-22 lead into the locker room.

Drexel had trouble continuing its offense flow to begin the second half with the first field goal falling in the form of Washington's fourth triple with 3:44 on the clock, though DU still led by 20, 46-26. The Dragons scored eight of the final 10 points to take a 23-point lead in to the fourth quarter, 54-31. Greenberg put away the final six points for Drexel to move her into a tie for the 5th-most career points at Drexel. Connolly, Greenberg and Washington each had 12 points after three quarters.

After allowing only nine points to the Huskies in the first and third quarters and 13 in the second, DU gave up 20 in the fourth quarter while only scoring 13 themselves. Despite being outscored in the final 10 minutes, the Dragons' lead never fell below 16. Greenberg tallied her 10th rebound of the day in the quarter to complete her double-double as the Dragons won, 67-51.
