Men's Tennis Defeats Navy, On a Four-Match Win Streak

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team defeated Navy Saturday night, 4-3, and extended its winning streak to four matches. The Dragons improved their record to 6-4 while the Midshipmen dropped to 11-5.

Drexel defeated Navy for the first time in program history, previously dropping the last eight meet ups.

Navy clinched the doubles point by winning the second and third-seeded matches. Sanil Jagtiani and Xandy Hammitt won the top seeded flight, 6-4.

In singles, Hugo Brungs defeated his third-seeded opponent in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. The Midshipmen took the fifth-seeded match to retake the lead 2-1 but then dropped three straight matchups. Alvaro Cruz Chamorro won his fourth-seeded match 6-3, 6-2. Hammitt won his second-seeded flight 6-4, 6-4. Jagtiani won his top-seeded match in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-2, to clinch the match for the Dragons. Navy took the sixth-seeded match.

The Dragons return to the Hecht and Hamlin Tennis Center to face Binghamton on Saturday, March 7. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
