Opening Tip
The Drexel University women's basketball team plays its second consecutive home game, hosting the Yale Bulldogs on Tuesday, December 14. Tipoff from the Daskalaskis Athletic Center is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
About Drexel
The Dragons got off to a hot start and maintained their lead throughout as Drexel downed the Longwood Lancers 79-57 on Saturday afternoon. It was the fourth straight victory for Drexel. Hannah Nihill and Keishana Washington both surpassed the 20-point mark in the game for DU.
Nihill continued her climb on the Drexel women's basketball record book on Saturday. Her 23 points gave her 1,082 and moved her just six behind Meghan Creighton for 21st on the DU scoring list. As part of her offensive output, she connected on a trio of three-pointers and moved into 10th on the Dragons' triples list with 126. Her seven assists also made her just the fifth player in program history with 400 or more in her career. The seven assists also made her just the fifth active player across all NCAA divisions with 1,000 points, 400 assists, and 250 steals.
Washington is also chasing down some history. She needs 13 points to become the 27th member of the Drexel 1,000 point club. She also trails Nihill by three three-pointers for 10th on the treys chart. With Washington's 1,000th career point, she and Nihill will be the first pair of Drexel players to hit the mark in the same season since Sarah Curran and Rachel Pearson both connected for their milestone point in 2015-16.
Scouting Yale
Yale enters play 6-4 overall and in its most recent game downed LIU 65-37 on December 8. The Bulldogs were voted fourth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll.
Camilla Emsbo leads the way for Yale in scoring with 15.5 points per game, followed by Jenna Clark at 11.6 a night. Providing a third scoring option is Klara Astrom who tallies 9.8 a night. Emsbo also tops the Bulldogs in rebounding with 10.3 an outing and has 24 blocks on the year. Clark leads the squad and is second in the conference with 56 assists.
Defense keys the Bulldogs who allow 56.8 points per game, second best in the Ivy League. They have struggled to hold on to the ball at times, averaging 18.4 turnovers per game, the worst mark in the conference.
Yale is not afraid to play away from Payne Whitney Gymnasium as Tuesday will be the Bulldogs ninth road game of 2021-22 with a record of 5-3 in away contests.
Allison Guth is in her sixth season as the head coach of Yale with a record of 89-67 in New Haven. She has led her teams to five consecutive winning seasons including 19 victories each in 2017-18 and 2019-20 and the 2018 Women's Basketball Invitational championship.
