Women’s Basketball Drops Homecoming, Senior Day Matchup to Delaware

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's basketball team (9-6, 6-4 CAA) fell to the University of Delaware Blue Hens (16-2, 13-1 CAA) on Sunday afternoon from the DAC by a final of 66-55.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Before the game, Drexel recognized Hannah Nihill and Kayla Bacon for senior day.
* The Dragons were hampered by a five-point second quarter with a 10-plus minute stretch between field goals. But DU fought back after getting down by 12 points in the third to bring the game within a possession later in the frame. Drexel hung around most of the fourth, getting within a possession with four minutes left until Delaware pulled away late.
* Junior Keishana Washington poured in a team-high 23 points, shooting 9-of-18 from the floor with two three-pointers.
* Nihill scored 14 points on the day with two treys. She dished out a season-high seven assists and had five rebounds and four steals.
* Bacon had four points and a team-high seven boards.
* Sophomore Hetta Saatman had four rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two points in the effort.
* Delaware's Jasmine Dickey finished with a game-high 25 points while UD's Ty Battle notched a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Drexel started 3-of-4 from the floor to take an early 7-2 lead as Delaware called a timeout less than three minutes into the contest. After closing the cap, the Blue Hens went on a 6-0 run to take a 15-14 advantage with 2:15 to play. DU gifted Delaware some second-chance opportunities with 10 offensive rebounds for UD in the frame. A couple of miscues by Delaware led to the Dragons owning an 18-15 edge after 10 minutes.

Hendrixson started the second quarter just as she did the first, with a three-pointer on the first possession. But from there, the Dragons found themselves in a scoring drought that ended with a pair of free throws from Bacon with 4:21 left. Outside of Hendrixson's trey 16 seconds into the quarter, Drexel did not get another field goal to fall in the half. Delaware ended the frame on a 9-0 run to take a 29-23 halftime lead.

Points remained at a premium for Drexel at the beginning of the third. Delaware used another 6-0 run to go up 37-25 with 5:31 on the clock. Washington then offered an offensive spurt for the Dragons with five unanswered points off the fastbreak as the game came to a media timeout with 3:24 left, 37-30. That turned into a 10-0 run as Saatman hit a baseline jumper before Washington drained another three to get Drexel within two, 37-35. UD held a 42-38 lead after three.

The Blue Hens pushed their advantage to six before DU slowly chipped away, bringing the deficit down to three with under four minutes to play. But a 7-0 run for Delaware put the edge back up to 10 with two minutes remaining, 57-47. UD held its double-digit advantage for the remainder of the affair, winning 66-55 to sweep the weekend conference series.
