Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Towson, 71-55

TOWSON, Md. – The Drexel University women's basketball team (10-6, 7-4 CAA) cruised to a 71-55 road win against the Towson University Tigers (11-5, 6-3 CAA) on Saturday afternoon from SECU Arena in Towson, Md.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Drexel came into the game allowing opponents just 55.5 points per game, the best figure in the conference and good for 19th in the country. Towson put up 55 points on Saturday.
* The Dragons used a 16-0 first-quarter run to get up early, an 8-0 run in the second to go up by 20 and then an 11-0 run in the third to lead by 30 in the contest.
* DU's largest lead was 31 in the third before the Tigers chipped away in the fourth quarter when the contest was already out of reach.
* Junior Keishana Washington finished with a game-high 19 points behind 6-of-13 from the floor, 3-of-5 from deep and 4-of-6 from the line. The guard also had two assist, two rebounds and a steal in 32 minutes.
* Junior Kate Connolly scored 12 points on the day behind 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range in 25 minutes.
* Graduate student Mariah Leonard notched 12 points with four rebounds.
* Sophomore Hetta Saatman scored a career-high eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
* Senior Hannah Nihill recorded six points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds in 31 minutes.
* Junior Maura Hendrixson made two treys for six points along with a team-best seven rebounds. The junior also recorded three assists and two steals.
* Sophomore Brianne Borcky (four points, four rebounds, one steal), senior Kayla Bacon (two points, four rebounds, two steals) and Erin Sweeney (two points) also figured into the win.

Connolly and Washington provided five points each in the opening five minutes of play as Drexel used a 7-0 run to take a 12-7 lead at the media timeout with 4:43 to go. That stretch continued out of the break as the Dragons pushed the run to 16-0, taking a 21-7 advantage that forced a Towson timeout with 30 seconds left. The Tigers ended their 6:30 minute scoring drought with a layup in the final seconds. Drexel led 21-9 after the first.
Q2 /
Drexel started the second on an 8-0 run to take a 20-point lead, 29-9, with 7:02 on the clock. Towson crept into double-digit scoring a few minutes later. The Tigers encroached on the Dragons big lead with a short 5-0 run before Washington drained her second three of the afternoon in the final minute. DU owned a 36-16 advantage at halftime. Drexel shot 55.2% in the opening half while limiting Towson to just 20.0% shooting behind 6-of-30 from the field.

DU held its 20-point advantage for most of the third quarter until the final two minutes when the Dragons put together an 11-0 run to double up the Tigers after three periods, 62-31. Washington led Drexel with eight points in the frame including 4-of-6 from the line. Leonard also went 4-of-4 at the stripe in the third.
Q4 /
The Dragons were able to rest some starters in the final 10 minutes. Towson outscored DU 24-9 in the fourth and ended the affair on a 12-2 run.
