Nasedkina Wins Bronze in First Day of CAA Swimming Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Drexel women's swimming team finished day one of the CAA Championships on Monday. Lera Nasedkina won bronze in the 50 free to win the first medal for the Dragons.
The 200 free relay team featuring Nasedkina, Victoria Palochik, Lauren DiCamillo and Ryann Styer started the night and finished in fourth with a time of 1:33.48.
In the preliminary round for the women's 500 free, Maddie Riley swam a time of 5:04.18 to place 16th and earn a spot to swim in the B-finals. The preliminary time was eight seconds faster than her seed time which was 5:12.75. Riley finished eighth in the B-final and touched the wall in 5:01.11
In the 50 free, the Dragons had two swimmers participate in the A-finals. Styer placed fifth in the preliminary round after touching the wall in 23.33 seconds and Nasedkina placed sixth with a time of 23.41. In the finals, Nasedkina won bronze by finishing with a time of 22.96. The medal is Nasedkina's third medal of her career and first medal in an individual event. Styer finished in sixth with a time of 23.43.
The final event of day one was the 400 medley relay. DiCamillo, Nasedkina, Palochik and Styer represented the Dragons and finished in 3:49.53 to place in sixth.
Day two of the CAA Women's Swimming Championships will start Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. with the preliminary rounds. The finals will start at 7:25 p.m. Both the preliminaries and final rounds will be streamed on FloSports.
