Softball Drops Two Games to Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Drexel softball team (15-5) dropped two games to the Villanova Wildcats (20-10) on Wednesday afternoon. Villanova won the first game, 2-0, and took the second game, 6-5.
GAME ONE
Olivia Farris (1-2) started on the rubber for the Dragons in game one and went 3.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned run and five hits. Farris struck two batters out in the effort.
Lindsay Nelson entered the game in relief and pitched 0.2 innings allowing three hits and walking two batters.
Meghan Conroy finished the game in the circle. Pitching two innings, Conroy held Villanova off the hit column.
Holly Bridgman went 2-for-2 with a double and a single.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Villanova scored its first run off a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the first. With a runner on second, Farris struck the next Wildcat out to keep the deficit at one.
Villanova scored its second run in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, Angelo Giampolo singled to second base and scored Ryan Henry. Villanova tried to score one more run, but a throw from Linda Rush to Bridgman stopped the threat and ended the inning at 2-0.
GAME TWO
Brooklyn Daly pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned runs and four hits in the start.
Conroy entered the game in relief and went 2.2 innings with one earned run and held the Wildcats to three hits.
Farris (1-3) closed out the game allowing two runs on two hits.
Kristi DiMeo went two-for-three with one run scored and a double.
Hannah Walker hit a double that plated two runs in the second inning. She finished game two hitting 1-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the second inning, it was Drexel who scored first. Walker doubled down the left field line and scored two runs to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Villanova scored three runs. The Wildcats scored the first run on a triple to right-center. Villanova scored the second run on an infield error, and the third was scored by a single to center field.
Reilly Jo Swanson hit a ball into center field to score Kristi DiMeo in the top of the fifth. Moving to third on the play was Bridgman. With runners on first and third, Elena Woulfe put the ball in play to right field, and it was mishandled, causing Drexel to score two runs and take a 5-3 lead.
Villanova brought the game to a one-run difference with a home run in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth, Villanova took the lead with a double down the right field line. The double scored two runs and gave Villanova the lead, 6-5.
WHATS NEXT
Drexel will return to West Philadelphia on Friday, April 16, to take on the Towson Tigers in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
