PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team opens the 2021 CAA Men's Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon at the Millie West Tennis Facility on the campus of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. The Dragons will compete against the second-seeded Elon starting at 3 p.m.
The Dragons will face the Phoenix for the first time since drawing them as an opponent in the 2015 CAA Championships. The Phoenix took that match, 4-0.
The Dragons have won two of their last three matches. One of those matches includes Drexel's 6-1 win over Hofstra. Hugo Brungs has been a critical piece for the Dragons in 2021. The sophomore has a 3-1 singles record, including a 6-0, 7-6 (6) No. 4 win against Villanova.
The winners of the quarterfinal matches will move on to the semifinals on Saturday. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, May 2, at 1 p.m.
The 2021 CAA Tennis Championship will be closed to the general public. No spectators will be admitted on Thursday or Friday of the event. The semifinals on Saturday and championship on Sunday will be limited to team and player pass lists to keep the Millie West Tennis Facility within the limits of COVID-19 capacity. If matches are moved indoors due to inclement weather, the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center will be closed to all fans.
