Woulfe Sets New Single-Game Record, Dragons Split Doubleheader With Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team (23-9, 9-5 CAA) split a doubleheader against the Hofstra Pride (14-13, 6-7 CAA) on Saturday afternoon. The Pride took game one, 10-9, and the Dragons won the second half of the doubleheader 6-2.
GAME ONE
Brooklyn Daly started game one for the Dragons and reentered the game in relief. The senior went 2.2 innings and allowed six runs.
Jessica Schable (3-1) entered the game in the third inning and went 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.
Linda Rush went 4-for-5 with a double and a home run. The graduate student also tallied two RBIs and scored three runs for the Dragons.
Kristi DiMeo went 4-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run for Drexel.
Sarah Clinton had a 3-for-3 game with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons opened the series with three straight batters getting on base. With the bases loaded and one out, Reilly Jo Swanson hit an RBI single to left field. The Hofstra left fielder mishandled the ball, and two more Dragons crossed home plate to push the lead to three.
In the bottom of the first, Hofstra scored three runs to tie the game. The Pride hit a double down the left field line to score one run. With runners on second and third, the Pride singled to center field and scored two runs.
The Dragons retook the lead in the top of the third. Megan Trivelpiece singled to left field and scored Rush from third.
Hofstra did not wait to strike back. The Pride hit a two-run home run to left-center to take the lead, 5-4.
The back-and-forth continued in the top of the fourth as the Dragons tied the game up at five. DiMeo hit a single through the left side to score Clinton.
The Dragons took the lead in the top of the fifth by hitting an RBI double to left-center to score Swanson from second. After Drexel's portion of the fifth, the score was 6-5.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Dragons had two highlight plays. The first was a diving grab by Elena Woulfe in foul territory and the second play was immediately after Woulfe's play. Trivelpiece made a sliding catch in left field.
The Dragons added insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Rush hit her 14th home run of the season to give the Dragons an 8-5 lead.
Hofstra scored three runs to tie the game at eight after a few RBI doubles in the bottom of the sixth. The Pride then took the lead after they hit a two-run home run.
In the top of the seventh, Walker grounded out to the shortstop to bring home Clinton, who reached on a double to lead off the inning. The Dragons were unable to score another run, and the game ended in Hofstra's favor, 10-9.
GAME TWO
Olivia Farris (3-4) started in the circle for the Dragons and went four innings. The freshman held the Pride to two runs on nine hits.
Lindsay Nelson pitched an inning in relief and held Hofstra hitless.
Daly closed the game for the Dragons. The senior threw two perfect innings to keep the Dragons ahead.
Woulfe went 5-for-5 with three runs scored. The senior tied the record for single-game hits in the program record book and set a record for singles in a game. With her perfect game two, Woulfe went 7-for-10 in the doubleheader.
Rush went 3-for-4 and scored one run for the Dragons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons struck first in the second game. Rush singled to the pitcher and got caught in a rundown. While Rush was in the rundown, Woulfe was able to score.
The Pride evened the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI single. In the bottom of the third, the Pride took the lead with a sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, the Dragons took the lead by scoring three runs. DiMeo hit a single that plated two runs for the Dragons. Woulfe and Grace Abbonizio scored on the play. Trivelpiece followed the two-run hit by putting the ball in play to second base. The ground out scored Rush. At the end of the top of the fifth, Drexel held the lead, 4-2.
In the sixth, Trivelpiece drew a walk while the bases were loaded to give the Dragons a 5-2 lead. Swanson then tacked on one more run for the Dragons by putting the ball in play. The Pride's shortstop misplayed the ball, and Woulfe scored.

Drexel and Hofstra will meet once more in a rubber match on Sunday, May 2, at 2 p.m.
