Softball’s Postseason Run Ends in the 2021 CAA Championship Semifinals to Delaware

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Drexel softball team saw its 2021 run at the CAA Softball championship come to an end on Thursday afternoon with a 5-1 loss in the semifinals to Delaware. The loss was the second loss in the tournament for Drexel, knocking them out and sending Delaware onto the championship game to face the top-seeded James Madison.
Brooklyn Daly started in the circle for the Dragons and threw seven innings. Allowing one run but did not allow a hit.
Kristi DiMeo went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was locked at zero until the top of the sixth. The Blue Hens scored a run on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead. The next play resulted in a runner's interference call that ended the top-half of the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Dragons scored the tying run on a single by DiMeo. At the end of the sixth, the game was tied at one.
With neither team taking a lead in the seventh, the game entered extra innings. Delaware hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth to have a 5-1 advantage.
Drexel finishes the season as the CAA North Division Regular Season Champions and with the highest win percentage in program history at 29-12 (.707).
