Williams and Wynter Score 17 Points Each to Lead Drexel Past Elon, 77-49

PHILADELPHIA – Amari Williams and Camren Wynter each scored 17 points as Drexel cruised to a 77-49 win against Elon on Thursday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons sank 12 3-pointers in the game and held the Phoenix to just 33 percent shooting on the night. Drexel is now 3-2 in CAA play and 8-7 overall. Elon dropped to 5-14 on the season (2-4 CAA).
Williams was 7-for-9 from the floor on his way to a career-high night in scoring. He also had four steals, three assists and a pair of blocked shots. He was one of four Dragons in double-figures. Wynter was 3-for-4 from 3-point territory and added five rebounds and three assists. Melik Martin contributed 15 points and six boards, while Coletrane Washington had a pair of 3-pointers and 10 points.
The Dragons took control of the game early in the second half. Their 13-point lead ballooned to 26 after a 15-2 run early in the second half. Drexel's defense held Elon to just one field goal over a span of more than 11 minutes to blow the game open. The Phoenix managed to make just six field goals in the second half and they made only 27 percent of their long-range attempts (6-for-22). In their last game, the Phoenix drained 17 3-pointers in a win against James Madison. Drexel's defense forced Elon into 19 turnovers in the game which led to 31 Drexel points. The Dragons had 11 steals in the game, which tied their season-high set on Saturday in the win at Northeastern.
Drexel shot the ball well all night. The Dragons had their second-best 3-point shooting game of the season, draining 12 of their 20 from deep (.600). Four different players had at least two 3-pointers. They finished the game shooting .528 from the floor.
The Dragons are back in the Daskalakis Athletic Center this Saturday when they host William & Mary on Homecoming Weekend at Drexel. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
