Dragons Battle To Road Draw Through Driving Rain; Remain Tied for First

BROOKLINE, Mass. – In a match that lived up to its billing between the two teams at the top of the table in the Colonial Athletic Association, the Drexel women's soccer team forged a 2-2 road draw at Northeastern through a driving rain on Thursday night.

Drexel has another tough road battle, traveling to Monmouth on Sunday, October 16. Opening tap from West Long Branch, N.J. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
OF NOTE
- With the tie and a win by Monmouth, the Dragons, Huskies and Hawks all enter the final two matches of the season tied for first with 14 points.
- The three teams will get to decide things on the pitch as they all play each other in the last couple contests. Drexel is at Monmouth on Sunday and Northeastern travels to Monmouth on the final day of the season on October 23.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Anna Salvucci and Isabel Kuzy each scored for the Dragons. It was the second of the year for Salvucci and the fourth for Kuzy.
- Delaney Lappin assisted on both goals, her second and third helpers of the year. She has now recorded a point in four straight contests.
- Molly Piso tied her season-high with seven saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies jumped on the board just 80 seconds into the match off a deflection for the early lead.
- Drexel pressured the remainder of the first half and had a couple of strong chances, one that forced a magnificent kick save and had a ball go off the crossbar.
- In the second half the bounces started to go the Dragons way. In the 59th minute, Lappin sent a ball down the right side to Salvucci who chipped it from the edge of the box and over the outstretched reach of the keeper, tying the match at 1-1.
- In the 76th minute, a ball was lofted into the box. After bouncing off a Northeastern player, Lappin headed the ball where it caromed off the underside of the crossbar to Kuzy who headed it home for her fourth goal of the season and a 2-1 DU lead.
- Five minutes later NU pulled level with a redirect off a corner, creating the final score.
