Lappin Sets Single-Season Goal Record as Dragons Advance To CAA Semis

PHILADELPHIA – A pair of second half goals from Delaney Lappin propelled the Drexel women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against the William & Mary Tribe in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Dragons will host the winner between Northeastern and Stony Brook later tonight in a semifinal to be played on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

OF NOTE

The win is the second ever for women's soccer in its postseason history. DU previously defeated James Madison in a semifinal on November 4, 2016.
Lappin set the program record for single-season goals with her 11th and 12th, besting the mark of 11 set by Vanessa Kara in 2015.

BY THE NUMBERS

It was Lappin's fourth match with two goals this season.
Casey Touey and Gabrielle Perrotto each had an assist. For Touey it was her third helper and the second of the year for Perrotto.
Drexel held an 8-3 edge in shots on goal and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite chances early, the Dragons found themselves down 1-0 at the half as the Tribe scored in the 42nd minute.
Lappin netted her 11th of the season off a scramble in the box. Touey smacked a ball that was deflected by the keeper before Lappin sent it across the line, tying the match in the 50th minute.
10 minutes later, Lappin struck again, cracking a shot from outside the box into the top right corner.
