Smith wins Gold and Silver on Day One of West Virginia Invitational

Morgantown, W.Va.- The Drexel men's swimming and diving team completed day one of the three-day West Virginia Invitational on Thursday night. The Dragons finished with a total of five medal finishes on the first day.
Sebastian Smith won gold in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.68 after swimming a 1:48.86 preliminary time. Alessio Gianni took home silver in the same event with a time of 1:48.69; one millisecond shy of Smith. His preliminary time was 1:50.74. Smith finished with a silver medal in the 50 free with a time of 20.24 after swimming a 20.44 in the preliminaries. Additionally, the Gianni and Smith duo were apart of the silver medal winning 400 medley relay team along with Kacper Karnik and John Scully. They're combined time was 3:15.35.
The Drexel Men's Swimming and Diving team also won the silver medal in the 200 free relay with a final time of 1:20.72. The team consisted of Sebastian Smith, Jakub Kwasny, Kacper Karnik, and John Scully.
The 200 Medley Relay, 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free,100 breast, 100 back, and 800 free will be featured in day two of the West Virginia Invitational on Friday morning. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. from Morgantown, W.Va.
