Women's Basketball Uses Dominant Fourth Quarter To Pull Away Against Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel University women's basketball team used an 11-0 fourth quarter run to break open a close game as the Dragons got back on the winning track with a 63-47 win against the Hofstra Pride on Friday night.

- Keishana Washington netted 21 to lead Drexel, extending her streak to 21 in a row with 10 or more.
- Hannah Nihill scored 16 and tied Bridget Scanlan for 10th on the Dragons all-time three-pointers list with 139. She also added seven assists.
- Tessa Brugler made a big impact on the game, scoring 11 with eight rebounds and three blocks.
- Maura Hendrixson pulled in eight rebounds to lead Drexel, a career-high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hofstra surprisingly jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead 84 seconds in. Drexel found its footing, scoring 10 in a row while holding the Pride off the board for more than four minutes, going up 10-5 at the 3:54 mark.
- DU and Hofstra battled back and forth through the remainder of the first with the Pride taking a brief lead before Drexel ended the opening 10 minutes up 15-14.
- The second quarter began much the same as the first as Hofstra got the quick jump, leading 23-20 before the Dragons scored seven in a row, opening a 27-23 edge with 3:56 to go before halftime. DU capped its scoring in the frame with a three from Hendrixson, taking a 30-25 advantage into the break.
- Starting the third, Drexel began with the hot hand, scoring seven of the first 10 points of the frame, opening its largest lead of the night to that point at 37-28 just more than three minutes into the period.
- The Pride did not go away, opening the fourth quarter with a couple of baskets to slice the Dragons advantage to a single point. Undeterred, Nihill scored five in a row, sparking the winning run as DU tallied 11 straight to go on top 55-43.
