WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Five Dragons scored in double figures as Drexel picked up a key road win at William & Mary, 72-57. Drexel is now 13-12 on the season and 8-7 in league play. It was Drexel's fourth CAA road win of the year, the most for the team since the 2014-15 squad won five league road games.
Drexel held the lead for most of the game, but William & Mary (5-23, 4-11 CAA) would not go quietly. With Drexel leading, 42-34, Camren Wynter dove for a lose ball out of bounds and was injured. He would not return in the game. The Dragons responded with six-straight points to open up a 14-point lead with 12 minutes to play. After a William & Mary timeout, the Tribe made a run of its own (16-6) and trimmed the deficit to just four points on a pair of Quinn Blair free throws with 7:21 remaining. Despite playing without one of their captains, the Dragons answered by scoring nine of the next 10 points to take command of the contest.
Tre Brown, who finished with 11 points, drained a 3-pointer to start the stretch. Drexel had contributions from a number of players in the final 10 minutes. Melik Martin came up with a big steal and took it the length of the court for a thunderous dunk. Amari Williams swatted a Brandon Carroll lay-up attempt on the next possession and started a fast break the other way. Williams found Xavier Bell who scored with a little more than three minutes to play. One minute later, Coletrane Washington drove the lane as the shot clock expired to put Drexel up 13 as the Dragons picked up the win in Williamsburg for the second-straight season.
Wynter led the way with 14 points. Lamar Oden came off the bench and scored 13 points, all in the first half. The sophomore made his first five shots, including three 3-pointers. Brown tied his season-high with those 11 points, while Martin and Bell each scored 10 points. Drexel shot 50 percent in the game.
Blair came off the bench to lead William & Mary with 15 points. Carroll added 10 points. The Tribe shot 39 percent in the game but committed 13 turnovers, which the Dragons turned into 17 points.
The Dragons will finish their three-game road swing on Saturday afternoon at Elon. Drexel and the Phoenix will tip-off at 4 p.m.
