Dragons Have Win Streak Snapped at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Drexel had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at Villanova. The Wildcats scored seven goals in the third quarter on their way to a come-from-behind, 15-12 win. Ryan Genord and Aidan Coll each scored three goals to lead the Dragons. Both teams are now 4-3 on the season.
Villanova scored two early goals, both by Brett Baskin on assists from Luke Keating, to take a 2-0 lead. The Dragons got their offense going late in the quarter, aided by a Villanova penalty. Jack Mulcahy set up Sean Donnelly for a man-up goal at the 5:12 mark, and three minutes later, Donnelly added another to even the score. The Dragons would add four more scores to complete a 6-0 run. Aidan Coll had three goals in the run, with Sean Curcio adding the other. Villanova answered by netting two scores before intermission and cut the lead to two.
The Wildcats took control of the contest in the third quarter. They tied the score at 6-6 before Genord gave Drexel a brief lead. Villanova then scored four straight goals in a span of just 2:20 to make it a three-goal game. Keating added another goal with only 13 seconds to play as the 'Cats took an 11-7 lead after three.
The Dragons chipped away and made it a two-goal game with five minutes to go. Genord scored both Drexel goals to make it 14-12. Villanova quelled Drexel's momentum when Matt Campbell set up Baskin for an insurance goal at the 3:31 mark.
Coll and Donnelly each finished with four points for the Dragons. Casey Waller added a pair of goals, while Mulcahy and Luke Stansfield each had two points. Drew McGill made 11 stops in the cage. Liam Rosato had a solid game, winning 13 of his 24 face-off attempts and chipping in with an assist.
Keating had a big day offensively for Villanova with three goals and five assists. Campbell and Baskin each scored three times. Will Vitton picked up the win with 12 saves.
The Dragons finish their three-game road swing on Saturday when they play at Robert Morris.
