PHILADELPHIA – Mitch de Snoo, a 2015 Drexel graduate, has been named the National Lacrosse League's Defensive Player of the Year. The Oshawa, Ontario native is a member of the Toronto Rock.
de Snoo was a key member of the Rock's defense that allowed less than 10 goals per game during the regular season. They were the only team to accomplish that feat. He tied for second in the NLL with 39 caused turnovers and led the team with 185 loose ball recoveries. de Snoo also led the Rock with 18 blocked shots while scoring eight times and assisting on 12 others.
de Snoo became the first Toronto player win the Defensive Player of the Year since 2010. He unseated Graeme Hossack, who won the previous three NLL Defensive Player of the Year awards. de Snoo, who was acquired by the Rock after the 2020 season, played for the Buffalo Bandits for his first five seasons in the league. He became the second former Drexel standout to win a major award in the NLL. Ben McIntosh won the NLL Rookie of the Year in 2015. The two were classmates at Drexel and were part of the 2014 team that won the CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
de Snoo was featured as a 40 Under 40 in 2021 by Drexel Magazine. He earned a master's degree at the University of Toronto in laboratory medicine and pathobiology while playing professional lacrosse.
