Dragons Upended by Monmouth in Intense Battle

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the CAA, but came up just shy in a 1-0 setback against the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday afternoon.
At halftime of the contest, the Dragons welcomed alumni back on the field and also presented the Laura Meikle Koch Memorial Scholarship to junior Tori Yost.
Both teams had chances that forced some impressive work along the back line. In the 30th minute, Monmouth had its best look in the opening half, picking a ball up off a turnover. A perfect feed into the box caught the Drexel goalie out of position, but coming through on the defensive end was Delaney Lappin to sweep the ball away.
One of the top opportunities for the Dragons came early in the 35th minute when Elise Duffy struck a ball that went off the fingertips of the Hawks' keeper before ricocheting off the post.
In total, Drexel goalkeepers made eight saves, four apiece for Joella Chase and Molly Piso.
DU returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Campbell for its first ever matchup against the Camels. Opening tap from Buies Creek, N.C. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
