Easton, Pa. - Drexel will stay in state on Wednesday when the Dragons travel to Easton to face Lafayette. The Dragons are looking to bounce back after a tough overtime loss at Old Dominion this weekend. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Local 98 is once again the presenting sponsor of Drexel Men's Basketball.
About the Dragons
Drexel is now 3-3 after Sunday's 68-61 decision at ODU. The Dragons had their chances but shot just 14 percent from long range and committed a season-high 18 turnovers in Norfolk. Amari Williams led the team with 19 points and a career-high tying six rejections. He passed Frank Elegar and moved into seventh on Drexel's career shot blocking list. Williams leads the team with 13.5 points per game. Justin Moore averages 10.8 points and 3.5 assists per game. Yame Butler and Luke House chip in with 8.2 and 8.0 points, respectively.
The Dragons shoot 42 percent from the floor, but have had their struggles from behind the arc. On the other end, Drexel is ranked 26th in the nation in field-goal percentage defense and is 31st in Division I allowing only 62 points per game. Drexel is outrebounding its opponents by almost eight boards a game after snaring 48 rebounds at Old Dominion.
About Lafayette
The Leopards are looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Lafayette played in the Cathedral Classic at the Palestra last weekend. Penn edged the Leopards, 74-72, in the first game. Lafayette fell to Monmouth and Belmont as well. Lafayette has a balanced scoring attack, but no one in double figures. Justin Vander Baan leads the way with 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Devin Hines and Kyle Jenkins are right behind him with 9.3 points.
The Series
Wednesday's game will be the 40th meeting in the series with Lafayette. Drexel holds a 23-16 advantage. The Dragons have won four in a row, including a 64-56 win last season in the DAC. Coletrane Washington led three Dragons in double figures with 18 points. Lafayette started the game by going 10-for-10 from the floor on its way to an early six-point lead. The Leopards didn't miss a shot for almost 10 minutes. Drexel answered with a 9-0 run and pulled away in the second half.
What's Next
The Dragons will play in the Big Five Classic at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday. It will be the Dragons first game in the building and they will face either Saint Joseph's, Penn or Villanova. That will be determined after all of the games involving Big Five teams are completed on Wednesday night.
