Dragons and Princeton Meet on Tuesday Night
12/4/2023 4:01:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Princeton, N.J. - Drexel will look to build on the momentum of this weekend's victory against Villanova on Tuesday night when it visits Princeton. The Tigers, who went to the Sweet 16 last year, picked up where they left off and have yet to lose this season (8-0). The International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Local 98 is once again the presenting sponsor of Drexel Men's Basketball.
About the Dragons
Drexel is 5-3 after a historic win on Saturday. The Dragons, playing in the Wells Fargo Center for the first time, defeated No. 18 VIllanova, 57-55. It was the school's first Big 5 victory and the 200th career win for Zach Spiker. It was also the first Drexel win against a top 25 team since 2010, when the Dragons went to the KFC Yum! Center and upset Rick Pitino's Louisville team. Amari Williams scored 12 points but was even more impressive on the defensive end. He rejected five shots, including one with four seconds to play to preserve the win. Luke House added 11 and drained three 3-pointers for the Dragons.
About Princeton
The Tigers are perfect in eight games this season. They erased an 11-point deficit on Saturday to defeat Furman, 70-69. Matt Allocco hit a 3-pointer in the final moments as the Tigers stayed unbeaten. The Tigers are off to their best start since the 1966-67 season.
Princeton's defense has allowed just one opponent to reach 70 points this season. The Tigers have beaten Rutgers this year and are 3-0 against members of the CAA (Hofstra, Monmouth, Northeastern). On the offensive end, three players average at least 15 points and the Tigers shoot 46 percent overall and 34 percent from deep. Xaivian Lee is off to a really good start, averaging 19 points per game. Allocco averages 17.5 points per game. Lee and Allocco have combined to make 31 3-pointers this season.
The Series
Drexel and Princeton, despite being just 46 miles apart, are meeting for just the 15th time. Last year, the Tigers defeated Drexel in the DAC, 83-63. Lamar Oden, Jr. led the Dragons with 16 points. It was the Tigers second straight win against DU. Prior to that, the Dragons had won four straight. Overall, Princeton holds a 10-4 lead in the series.
What's Next
The Dragons' schedule won't get any easier after Tuesday's game. Drexel will head to Morgantown, W.V. to face West Virginia on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. It will be the Dragons last game before finals week.
