Drexel Athletics Mourns the Loss of David Broadus

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel Athletics is mourning the loss of Hall of Famer David Broadus. A standout on the basketball court, Broadus passed away on March 17, 2023.
Broadus was a four-year letter winner from 1976-1980 after joining the team as a walk-on. He became only the fourth player in school history to score over 1,000 points in his career and was the first Dragon to score 400 points in consecutive seasons. In his final season in University City, Broadus led the Dragons with 17.8 points per game. He was an All-ECC Second Team pick and the Lt. Loomis Award winner as the outstanding Drexel player in 1980. He was the ECAC Player of the Week seven times, an ECC Player of the Week pick five times and the Herb Good Player of the Week on three occasions. Broadus ended his career with 1,371 career points and 694 rebounds. He still ranks eighth in career field goals at Drexel, 17th in career points and is tied for 15th in career rebounds.
Broadus graduated from Drexel in 1981 with a business administration degree and was inducted into the Janet E. and Barry C. Burkholder Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987. A Celebration of Life for Broadus will take place on Thursday, March 30 at St. Matthew's Baptist Church in Williamstown, N.J. The memorial viewing is from 9-10 a.m. with the service to follow.
