Dragons Drop Doubleheader Against Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The Drexel softball team was defeated by the Towson Tigers in a continuation from yesterday's postponed game and then in the series finale. Towson took game two, 8-4, and then won the third game, 6-4.
GAME TWO
Jessica Schable (4-8) started the game and went all six innings. The pitcher struck three batters out in the two-day effort.
Lily Meuninck continued to swing a hot bat. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Ashley Errico also drove two runs in on a 1-for-2 game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Towson struck early. In the bottom of the first, the Tigershit an RBI double to left center and an RBI single to extend the lead to two. Towson scored a pair of runs to double its lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, Drexel cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs. Meuninck hit a double down the line to score Ameryn Humble. Errico then hit a single that scored Meuninck.
In the bottom of the fourth, the game was called due to inclement weather and was finished on Sunday. When the game returned, the Tigers poured on four runs to push the lead to 8-2.
In the fifth, Meuninck dumped a ball into center field and scored Lana Mooney on the play. In the sixth, Errico hit a sacrifice fly to center field and scored the Dragons' fourth run.
GAME THREE
Lindsay Nelson (2-10) started the game for Drexel and pitched five innings. Schable entered the game in relief and pitched in relief for an inning, holding Towson hitless.
Kylee Guerrera went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Savaanah Garcia went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Towson scored twice in the bottom of the first inning. The first run came way of a sacrifice fly. The second run came off a single to center field.
In the top of the second, Errico hit a single to left center and scored two runs to tie the game. Scoring on the play was Guerrera and Mia Garza.
The game stayed tied until the top of the fifth when Grace Abbonizio hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Garcia scored on the play.
The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth. One on a single to left field, another on a sacrifice fly and the third was a triple to center field.
With runners on second and third in the seventh inning, Abbonizio lifted a ball to left field to ensure one run would score.
UP NEXT
Drexel gears up for a nonconference matchup against the Lafayette Leopards on Tuesday, April 4. The Dragons will travel to Easton, Pa. to play a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
