Dragons Defeat Lehigh, 53-44

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 53-44, on Wednesday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
BY THE NUMBERS
Amaris Baker scored 18 points, grabbed three rebounds and tallied one assist and two steals.
Chloe Hodges finished with six points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Her assists are a career-high, topping a seven-assist performance against Cambell at the DAC on March 4, 2024.
Laine McGurk provided quality minutes off the bench, scoring 9 points on 4-for-6 shooting. The sophomore also added four assists, two rebounds and one steal to her stat sheet.
Drexel never conceded the lead. In the second half, Drexel posted its largest scoring run of 14 points and also its largest lead of the game, which was 20.
Defensively, Drexel held the Patriot League powerhouse, who averaged 70 points per game coming into tonight to its lowest point total of the season. The Mountain Hawks also shot 35.4 percent from the field, 10 ticks lower than their season average.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons finished the first quarter with a three-point lead, 11-8. Hodges led the Dragons with four points converting on a pair of free throws and a field goal. The Dragons held Lehigh to just 30.8 percent from the floor on 4-for-13 shooting. The Mountain Hawks also turned the ball over three times in the first ten minutes.
Drexel scored another 11 points in the second quarter to extend its lead to seven. The Dragons were led by Baker, who scored a team-high nine points on 4-for-5 shooting. DU held Lehigh to yet another quarter of single digit scoring with seven points.
DU opened the second half on a 12-4 run. Led by Grace O'Neill with five points, Drexel shot 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from deep. Lehigh continued to struggle with the Dragon defense, shooting 1-for-7 to open the second half. Lehigh only made one more field goal in the quarter. Drexel led the game after 30 minutes, 40-21.
The Hawks poured on 23 points in the fourth quarter and held Drexel to just 13. However, the 10-point differential only cut the deficit to nine. Baker led the Dragons once more, scoring nine of Drexel's 13 points. Hodges tacked on three assists in the final frame to post a career-high eight assists.

The Dragons are set to play in the program's first Toyota Big 5 Classic on Friday afternoon. After finishing pod play with a 1-1 record, Drexel will play in the second game of the tripleheader against the Saint Joseph's Hawks.
