PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team defeated the Norfolk State Spartans, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Vidas Courts.
The 75th-ranked Dragons easily captured the doubles point, taking the top-seeded match and No. 3 spot. Alan Jesudason and Alex De Sousa won their No. 1 match, 6-2, while Will Burridge and Hussein El Tawil downed their opponents, 6-1.
The pair of Alessio Azzalini and Pierre Humayou competed in the No. 2 spot and was down 4-3 when the match was called.
In singles play, the Dragons just needed the first three matches to clinch the match. In the No. 2 match, De Sousa won in two sets, 6-1, 6-2. In the third-seeded match, Will Burridge defeated Jakub Solarski 7-6 (4), 6-2. To clinch the match, El Tawil defeated his opponent in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Azzalini was ahead 6-3 in the fourth-seeded match before the match was clinched. The No. 5 match, featuring Egor Kirakosov, and the sixth-seeded match, featuring Josue Guzman, had not started before Drexel clinched the match.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, March 2 to face Navy. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. from Annapolis, Md.
