
Drexel Falls to Northeastern in Boston, 70-61

BOSTON – Northeastern used a 6-0 run midway through the second half to take the lead as the Huskies defeated Drexel, 70-61, on Thursday night at Matthews Arena.
The Dragons (11-9, 3-4 CAA) trailed for most of the game, but took a five-point lead with 13:31 to go in the game. The Huskies answered with a pair of buckets and two free throws to take a 45-44 lead with 11 minutes to play. After the teams exchanged baskets, Northeastern (11-9, 3-4) was able to extend the lead to eight and the Dragons were unable to get any closer than five the rest of the night.
Yame Butler led the Dragons with 17 points and was 8-for-9 from the floor. However, the senior was called for a flagrant two foul with 5:29 to play in the game and was ejected. Butler finished 8-for-9 from the floor. Victor Panov and Kobe MaGee each added 11 points. Drexel shot 44 percent in the game, but made just three of its 18 3-point attempts.
Rashad King and JB Frankel each had 19 points for Northeastern. Drexel held King in check until late, holding NU's leading scorers to just 6-for-20 shooting. Frankel, who came into the game averaging 5.1 points, had a career-high in scoring and was 5-for-6 from deep. Youri Fritz added 13 points for the Huskies, who had 20 second chance points off 16 offensive rebounds.
Northeastern jumped out to a 6-0 lead aa JB Frankel hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first 80 seconds. The Huskies led for the entire first half. The Dragons cut the lead to one with 1:15 left on a Victor Panov put-back, but the Huskies scored the final five points of the half to take a six-point lead at intermission. Frankel, who came into the game averaging 5.1 points per game, had 11 points to lead NU. Yame Butler had seven points for the Dragons, who made just one of their six long-range attempts. Each team had eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Drexel returns to Philadelphia and will face Delaware on Saturday. It is Homecoming Weekend on campus and Drexel will induct a Hall of Fame class prior to the game, which starts at 2 p.m.
