PHILADELPHIA – Drexel field hockey earned a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory over No. 20 Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field. The Dragons rallied from a 2-1 deficit and tied the game with just 15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, improving to 7-6 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Joseph's jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the opening six minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Drexel responded before the end of the first quarter when Natali Foster scored off a penalty corner, assisted by Pili Lemoine and Valentine Van Hellemont. The goal cut the deficit in half and gave the Dragons momentum heading into the break.

Both defenses tightened through the middle quarters, as goalkeeper Halle Geiger entered in relief and turned aside a pair of key shots to keep it a one-goal game. With time winding down, Drexel pressed forward and earned a corner with under a minute to play. Van Hellemont redirected a shot from Foster into the cage with 15 seconds left, sending the game to overtime.

After two scoreless extra periods, the match was decided in a penalty shootout. Fleur Hamers converted twice, including the deciding attempt, to secure the upset victory for the Dragons.

Foster recorded a goal and an assist, while Van Hellemont and Hamers added the other tallies.
Geiger earned the win, making two saves in 65 minutes of action.
