PHILADELPHIA – Valentine Van Hellemont and Pili Lemoine each tallied two goals in Drexel's rout against William & Mary on Friday afternoon at Buckley Field, 5-1. As a result, and due to Hofstra defeating Towson, Drexel is locked in as the three seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament.
Drexel did not need time to settle in against the Tribe. Just 30 seconds in was all it took for Van Hellemont to score her first goal of the day and sixth of the season. Fleur Hamers was credited with an assist, her fifth of the season. Seven and a half minutes later, Van Hellemont checked in once more to put Drexel up by two. Natali Foster earned her fourth assist of the season.
Foster tripled Drexel's lead in the 13th minute, finishing the play that was started by Van Hellemont and Lemoine. It was Foster's fifth goal of the season, and Van Hellemont's and Lemoine's eighth assist of the season.
William & Mary scored its lone goal of the game in the second quarter. However, Drexel did not wait to strike again. Lemoine found the back of the cage in the 27th minute, finishing a play created by Lauren Kushma. In the third quarter, Lemoine scored her second goal of the game to push Drexel's lead to four.
The Dragons finish the regular season with a record of 11-7 and 3-2 in CAA play and have locked in at the No. 3 seed in the CAA Tournament. On November 7, Drexel travels to West Long Branch, N.J. to compete against the winner of the Monmouth and Northeastern contest in the semifinals.
