Drexel Places Sixth Out of 11 Teams
PHILADELPHIA — No. 17 Jasiah Queen and Ibrahim Ameer earned runner-up finishes at the PRTC Keystone Classic Sunday afternoon at The Palestra. Six Dragons reached the podium as the DU placed sixth out of 11 teams with 89 points.
Rutgers took the overall team championship, earning 159 points. Philadelphia rival Penn, who hosted the event, came home in second with 140 points.
Queen had an impressive day in the 174-pound bracket. The redshirt sophomore posted a 3-1 record on way to the first place match. The Elizabeth, N.J. held his own against No. 8 Lenny Pinto of Rutgers, but fell just short after taking the match into tiebreakers.
Ameer had a strong showing in the 197-pound tournament, reaching the finals match after three straight victories, including two wins with bonus points. The senior ultimately fell to No. 33 Kael Wisler of Michigan State by a 7-0 decision.
Newcomer Nate Schon secured a bronze medal finish at heavyweight. He nearly punched his ticket to the championship match but fell just short in an 8–7 decision against No. 16 Jimmy Mullen of Virginia Tech. The Selinsgrove, Pa., native claimed third place after a forfeit from No. 19 Hunter Catka.
The Dragons return to action on December 5 when Drexel hosts No. 1 Penn State in the DAC. Action from Philadelphia begins at 7:30 p.m.
