PHILADELPHIA – Tucker Durkin, who has served as an assistant coach for the last five seasons at Drexel, has been promoted to associate head coach.
"Coach Durkin has been a steady presence on the defensive side of the ball for our program the past five seasons," said Drexel Head Coach Steve Boyle. "He's a great mentor, leader, and motivator that our players respect a tremendous amount. We're excited about the future and look forward to the 2025 season."
Durkin has been the defensive coordinator since coming to Drexel prior to the 2020 season. The Dragons have qualified for the CAA Championships every season since his arrival on campus and the 2021 team won the CAA title. That team finished in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense. Durkin is in charge of Drexel's man-down unit, which has finished in the top 15 nationally in each of the last three seasons. Last year, the Dragons led the CAA in man-down defense and were sixth in the nation at .761
Durkin came to Drexel after serving as the head coach at Bryn Athyn, where he led the Lions to four consecutive conference tournament appearances.
Durkin announced his retirement from professional lacrosse in March. He played professionally since his graduation from Johns Hopkins in 2013. The Huntington Valley, Pa. native was a three-time Major League Lacrosse All-Star and the 2017 MLL Defensive Player of the Year. Durkin also played in the Premier Lacrosse League, where he was named an All-Star on three times
He was a member of the United States National Team on two occasions. In 2014 Durkin was named the Most Outstanding Defenseman and in 2018, Durkin and the U.S. won a Gold Medal.
A La Salle College High School graduate, Durkin earned a political science degree from Hopkins, where he won the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation's best defenseman in both 2012 and 2013.
The Dragons begin the 2025 season at home on Feb. 15 against UMBC.
