Dragons Handle Mercer in Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational, 21-6

ATLANTA, Ga. –Drexel scored five straight goals to start the game and went on to a 21-6 win against Mercer at the Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational on Saturday. Drexel picked up its second straight win and improved to 3-2. The game was played at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field as part of the Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational. Maryland defeated top-ranked Notre Dame in the opener of the doubleheader.
Max Semple scored six goals and had an assist for the Dragons. The senior now has 102 career goals and is tied for eighth all-time in goals at Drexel with John Colt. All of his points came in the first half as Drexel Head Coach Steve Boyle emptied the bench early in the second half. The Dragons led 17-3 at intermission. Jack Joyner had his first career hat trick and Jack Clark had a pair of goals for DU. The Dragons had 13 different players score at least one goal and the 21 goals were the most in a game for the team since March of 2021. Finn Halladay, Ryan Lowe, Aidan Shortley and Jack Wallace all netted their first career goals at the home of the Georgia Tech football team.
Drew McGill started in the cage for the Dragons and made six saves in the first half. Brendan Donnelly and Charlie Schine each saw action in goal and combined for nine saves.
Drexel outshot the Bears, 50-33, and had 34 of those shots in the opening two periods. Mercer (1-4) was led by Ganon Cope and Luke Fox, who each had a goal and an assist.
The Dragons fly home and will be back in action this Tuesday. They will travel to the Main Line where they face-off with Villanova at 5 p.m.
