Dragons Can't Hold Off Campbell on Senior Day; Fall, 56-52

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team could not hold off the Campbell Camels, 56-52, on Sunday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons fell to 16-10 overall and 12-4 in the CAA, while Campbell improved 18-10 overall and have a 11-5 mark in the conference. With two games remaining, Drexel has the second-seed, owning the tiebreaker over Charleston, who also is 12-4 in the conference.
BY THE NUMBERS
Prior to the game, Drexel celebrated the careers and dedication of Chloe Hodges, Amaris Baker and Cara McCormack.
Baker led the team with 17 points and four assists.
Deja Evans finished the game with 15 points and with a season-high 13 rebounds, for her second double-double of the season. The sophomore also blocked five shots on the day.
Evans has 60 blocks this season, after swatting away five today. While only appearing in 25 games this season, Deja has climbed into the program's career block list as No. 10, overtaking LaTasha Rice, who finished her career with 58. Evans is 15 blocks shy from setting the program's single-season record and is four away from climbing to No. 7 on the career list.
Drexel's loss on Sunday is the only conference loss at home all season. The Dragons finished 8-1 at home in CAA play, which currently leads the conference heading into the final weekend of conference play in the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Campbell opened the game with a 15-12 lead in the first quarter. The Camels received a 12-point outburst from Gianni Boone, shooting 5-for-7. On the offensive end, Baker paced the Dragons with six points and Hodges followed with four. Drexel shot 46.2 percent for the half.
The second quarter was the Drexel show, as the Dragons outscored the Camels 18-12 in the frame. Baker led the Dragons with seven points, while Laine Mcgurk scored six and Deja chipped in with five. The Dragons shot 5-for-10 in the second frame and was 3-for-6 from deep.
Campbell and Drexel battled to a 14-13 quarter, in favor of Drexel. The Dragons shot 7-for-18 in the frame, with Evans leading the way with six points. Hodges and Baker each scored four points. The Dragons held the Camels to 4-for-16 shooting, however the Camels were 2-for-4 from behind the arc. Drexel led after three frames, 44-40.

While the men's basketball tournament will be taking place in Washington, D.C., the women's basketball schedule will shift to a Thursday, Friday slate. For Drexel, the Dragons make their final appearance against Delaware in the Bob Carpenter Center as CAA rivals on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Dragons complete the regular season on Saturday in Stony Brook, N.Y. against the Seawolves at noon.
